This book is about Leonard Wight's family who moved to Eaton County from Lorain County in about 1858.  Included is the story of Sheldon Wight's life and his diary when he was in the 6th Michigan Calvary Regiment in the Civil War.
He writes of the raids in the Shenandoah Valley and being at Appomattox when the treaty was signed.  The part of the diary of special interest to Civil War historians is his daily account of being sent west at the end of the war from Washington D.C. to take part in the Powder River Expedition in Wyoming Territory.  This expedition isn't extensively documented so the Wight diary adds a bit to the history of the 6th Michigan Calvary.

Contact ECGS at 517-543-8792 (see room hours on home page) or e-mail at ecgsoc@juno.com. for questions.  Please order through one of these methods to insure book is still available before sending money.
